Climate change is a major challenge facing human society at present, and green development is an inevitable choice for sustainable operation of chemical enterprises. Sinochem International has set up a special working group on green production under the Sustainable Development Committee to regularly identify the possible impact of the company's activities, products or services on the local environment, implement energy saving and emission reduction through pollution prevention and control, energy conservation, strengthening carbon emission management and water resource management, and create green plants to contribute to the sustainable development of the fine chemical industry.

Sinochem International has consolidated its pollution prevention and control initiatives, focusing on the implementation of sewage diversion projects, special treatment of VOCs, ultra-low emission transformation and upgrading for boilers, construction of hazardous waste incineration projects and soil survey activities for all enterprises that relocated from downtown to industrial park, and standardizing basic management

Waste disposal measures

Uultra-low Emission Transformation of Yangnong Ruixiang
Yangnong Ruixiang upgraded its thermal power boilers, improving flue gas dedusting, desulphurization, denitrification, and flue gas denitration, using polymer denitrification technique to achieve emissions even lower than the ultra-low emission standards. In 2020, SO2 and NOx emissions were reduced by 52.5 and 123.6 tons respectively on year-on-year basis.

Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction

Sinochem International is committed to improving the efficiency of energy use and formulated the Measures for Energy Conservation Management of Sinochem International (Holdings) Co., Ltd. to strengthen the whole-process energy conservation management in terms of source control, production and processing, operation and maintenance, etc. Measures like energy saving assessment, energy audit, energy balance tests are taken to realize precise management and control of energy consumption.

Responding to the goal of “Peaking Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality”

Climate change and carbon emission reduction have always been important ESG topics for Sinochem International. In response to the national strategic goal of “Peaking Carbon Dioxide Emissions and Carbon Neutrality”, Sinochem International sets carbon emission targets, actively carries out carbon footprint accounting of its subsidiaries, promotes clean and low-carbon energy structure, develops clean technologies and energy-saving equipment, and explores new paths of carbon emission reduction to help achieve the national strategic goals.

Water Resources Management

Sinochem International has improved and perfected the water resources management system to reduce the consumption and pollution of water resources from the whole process of water intake, water use and wastewater recycling. The Company formulated the Detailed Rules for Sewage Management, regularly monitored the amount of water used for operation and production, and promoted the recycling of water resources and wastewater purification by means of equipment replacement and process optimization.

In order to create a green plant in an all-around way, the Company has refined management in eight aspects, including raw and auxiliary materials and energy, technology and process, equipment, process control, management, employees, products and waste, etc., and closely and orderly integrated environmental management with the whole production process.

Staged Reaction and Closed-cycle Process of Epoxy Resin
The “staged reaction and closed-cycle process of epoxy resin” of Yangnong Group has effectively reduced raw material consumption and emissions of wastewater, waste gas and solid waste while improving the quality of epoxy resin and has taken the lead in the epoxy resin industry to realize the resourceful recycling of high-salt wastewater, which is of great significance in promoting the efficient, green and safe sustainable development of China’s epoxy resin industry. The process has been listed in the List of Green Petrochemical Processes (2020) prepared by CPCIF, marking the authoritative recognition of the process in the industry in terms of green environment protection and resource efficiency utilization.

Clean Production for Pyridine Heterocyclic Products via Microchannel Continuous Flow Catalysis and Synthesis
Yangnong Group has independently developed a series of core technologies such as microchannel synthesis and high-efficiency catalysis, which are successfully applied to the safe, clean and efficient production of 4000 tons/year pyridine heterocyclic fine chemicals, with the technical economy and product quality reaching the international advanced level, promoting the technological upgrading of the industry and creating good economic, social and ecological benefits. This process was listed in the List of Green Petrochemical Processes prepared by CPCIF in 2019, and has won the first prize of technological innovation of the 13th China Pesticide Industry Association, the first prize of science and technology of Jiangsu Chemical Society in 2020, and the third prize of scientific and technological progress of CPCIF.
